Abstract

This invention provides an improved medical-grade contact tubing. Medical-grade contact tubing possesses the desirable characteristics of the medical industry and may therefore be used as medical contact tubing in, for example, in the treatment of renal diseases or for blood transfusions. At this point, the invention provides a non-extruded PVC medical-grade contact tubing consisting of: an outer layer composed of a mixture of polypropylene copolymer and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene copolymer; a crosslinking layer; and a core layer of a mixture of polyamide and ethylene vinyl acetate.

Claims (10)

1. A medical-grade, non-PVC squeeze-out tubing consists of an outer layer (12) made of a polypropylene copolymer and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene copolymer mixture; an inner core (16) made of a polyamide and ethylene vinyl acetate mixture; and a middle link (14) bonding the outer layer (12) to the inner core (16). The middle link (14) contains a styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene copolymer which interacts with the polypropylene copolymer in the outer layer (12) and a polyester copolymer which interacts with the polyamide component in the middle layer (16). 2. Medical-grade, non-PVC coupling tubing of claim 1, with a crosslinked layer composed of a mixture of polyester, polypropylene copolymer, styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene copolymer, and ethylene vinyl acetate. 3. Medical grade non-PVC co-extruded contact tubing of claim 1, where the linkage layer (14) is a composite consisting of 30 to 60% by weight copolyester, 0 to 20% by weight polypropylene copolymer, 30 to 60% by weight styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene copolymer, and 0 to 30% by weight ethylene vinyl acetate. 4. Medical grade non-PVC contact tubing of one of the preceding claims whose outer layer (12) consists of a mixture of 40 to 99% by weight of polypropylene copolymer and 1 to 60% by weight of styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene copolymer. 5. Medical grade non-PVC contact tubing of claim 4, with the outer layer (12) composed of a mixture of 60% by weight polypropylene copolymer and 40% by weight styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene. 6. Medical grade non-PVC contact tubing that is squeezed together of any of the preceding claims in which the core polyamide component (16) consists of at least two different types of polyamide. 7. Medical-grade, non-PVC squeeze-out tubing of claim 6, containing polyamide components: Polyamide Quality No. 1 and Polyamide Quality No. 2. 8. Medical grade non-PVC contact tubing of any one of the claims 1 through 5, with a core layer (14) composed of 70% by weight polyamide block and 30% by weight ethylene vinyl acetate. 9. Medical grade non-PVC squeeze-out contact tubing of claim 7 where the polyamide components consist of: 60% by weight polyamide block (quality No. 1); and 20% by weight polyamide block (quality No. 2); and the inner core (16) consists of 20% by weight ethylene vinyl acetate. 10. A non-PVC medical-grade container for medical fluids, consisting of a medical-grade non-PVC contact tube that is squeezed together (10) in accordance with one of the preceding claims.
