The pH of the aqueous solution is in the range of 2–4, the hydrogen peroxide/peracetic acid concentration ratio is 0.7 or less, and the peracetic acid concentration is 500–3000 ppm. Depending on the aseptic method in which this aseptic agent is applied, the peracetic acid series aseptic agent exhibits excellent aseptic performance even at very low peracetic acid concentrations and offers significant economic advantages. Furthermore, post-sterile rinsing of the containers with sterile water is achieved by injecting sterile water at short intervals to a level where the sterile containers are ready for packaging with food and beverages. Therefore, the aseptic agent exhibits excellent economic value and performance. Sterilization methods are employed by heating the peracetic acid series sterilizing agent and/or food containers and similar items, or the inner surface of containers, to 60 °C or higher to achieve more efficient sterilization results and recyclability, provided that the hydrogen peroxide/peracetic acid concentration ratio is maintained. This invention provides an aqueous solution of the peracetic acid series sterilizing agent for aseptic packaging, consisting mainly of hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, and water, where the pH of the aqueous solution is in the range of 2–4, the hydrogen peroxide/peracetic acid concentration ratio is 0.7 or less, and the peracetic acid concentration is 500–3000 ppm, as well as the sterilization methods in which this sterilizing agent is applied. The peracetic acid series sterilizing agent exhibits excellent sterilization results. Although the concentration of peracetic acid is extremely low and offers significant economic advantages, what is more remarkable is that post-sterilization rinsing with sterile water is achieved by injecting sterile water in short bursts to a level where the sterilized containers are ready for food and beverage packaging. Therefore, the disinfectant has excellent economic value and performance. Sterilization is performed by heating the peracetic acid series disinfectant and/or food and similar containers, or the inner surface of the containers, to 60°C or higher to achieve more efficient sterilization and recyclability, provided that the hydrogen peroxide/peracetic acid concentration ratio is maintained.
