Claims (15)

An absorbent product consisting of (a) a top sheet and (b) a back sheet made of a primarily permeable and impermeable composite sheet material, which consists of (i) a first non-woven membrane made of fibers with opposite first and second sides, and (ii) a second non-woven membrane made of fibers with opposite first and second sides, where the first side of the second non-woven membrane receives the second side of the first non-woven membrane. Each of the first and second non-woven membranes is a powder-bonded membrane in which the fibers of the first and second non-woven membranes are bonded to other fibers of such membranes by a synthetic binder that penetrates the first and second non-woven membranes. (iii) a vapor-permeable thermoplastic film bonded to the second side of the non-woven membrane made up of the first layer of fibers, where (i) at least 90% by weight of the fibers in the non-woven membrane made up of the first layer of fibers are compatible with the adhesive; (ii) between 25% and 75% by weight of the fibers in the non-woven membrane made up of the second layer of fibers are compatible with the adhesive and the thermoplastic film; (iii) between 75% and 25% of the fibers in the non-woven membrane made up of the second layer of fibers are incompatible with the adhesive and the thermoplastic film; and (IV) at least 50% by weight of the polymers in the thermoplastic film are compatible with the adhesive; and (c) an absorbent core positioned between the top and back layers of the non-woven membrane made up of the first layer of fibers.

(e) nonwoven membrane fibers containing between 75 and 25% by weight of such secondary fibers are made from polymers selected from polyamide, polyolefin, acrylic and cotton groups.
