A disposable diaper consists of a basic diaper structure comprising a permeable top sheet, an impermeable back sheet, and an absorbent core installed between them. This basic diaper structure is defined by longitudinal anterior and posterior ends that both extend along the circumference of the wearer's torso, and a pair of side edges that extend parallel to each other and perpendicular to these anterior and posterior ends. An anterior waist area, a posterior waist area, and a crotch area stand between them. Opposite transverse side edges of the crotch area are curved inward. A cover sheet is integrated with the basic diaper structure and extends above it. This cover sheet has an opening that extends across the transverse center of the crotch area in the basic diaper structure, into the areas above the anterior and posterior waist areas, respectively, and is fitted around the perimeter of this opening with an elastic band that can stretch/contract. This creates a gap between the cover sheet and the top sheet, at least along the perimeter of the opening, and it is bonded to the inner surface of the basic diaper structure. Along its outer perimeter, where; the aforementioned elastic consists of: the first elastic extending along half of the outer perimeter of the aforementioned opening, which is curved toward the aforementioned anterior waist area; and the second elastic extending along the other half of the outer perimeter of the aforementioned opening, which is curved toward the aforementioned posterior waist area. The first and second elastics intersect at the beginning of the outer perimeter of the aforementioned opening; the first elastic extends further along half of the lateral edge of the aforementioned crotch area; and the second elastic extends further along the other half of the lateral edge of the aforementioned crotch area.
