DC60 (08/07/42) A compound 1-alkyl-4-benzoyl-5-hydroxy-1H-pyrazole, in which the benzoyl portion is replaced at position -2 with a group such as a halo or alkyl, at position -4 with an alkylsulfonyl group, and at position -3 with a 3-oxythanyloxy or oxythanylmethoxy substituent, was prepared and found to be useful for controlling a wide variety of broadleaved and narrowleaved weeds. The compound exhibits good environmental and toxicity properties and can also be used for area control in crops. The compound 1-alkyl-4benzoyl-5-hydroxy-1H-pyrazole, in which the benzoyl portion is replaced at position -2 with a group such as a halo or alkyl, at position -4 with an alkylsulfonyl group, and at position -3 with a substituent... 3-oxytanyloxy or oxytanylmethoxy has been prepared and found to be useful for controlling a wide variety of broadleaved and narrowleaved weeds. Claims (9)

1. Benzoylpyrazole compounds with the formula: (chemical formula) where X is represented by F, CI, Br, CH3, or OCH3; Y by CH3, C2H5, or CH(CH3)2; R by 3-oxythanyloxy, 3-oxythanylbethoxy, 2-(2-oxythanyl)ethoxy, or 2-oxythanylmethoxy, each of which is selectively substituted by methyl; R' by C1-C4 alkyl, C3-C4 alkynyl, or C3-C4 alkynyl; R'' by H or CH3; and their agriculturally acceptable salts and esters. 2. A compound that conforms to claim 1, where Y is represented by methyl. 3. A compound that conforms to claim 1 or 2, where X is replaced by chloro or methyl. 4. A compound that satisfies any one of the claims made forth thereof, where 'R' is represented by hydrogen or methyl. 5. A compound that satisfies any one of the claims made up forth, where R' is represented by methyl or ethyl. 6. A compound that satisfies any one of the claims stated above, where R is represented by the 3-oxytanyloxy (chemical formula). 7. A mixture containing the effective herbicide concentration of one of the above-mentioned benzoylpyrazole compounds. 8. A method for controlling unwanted vegetation in an area, consisting of contact with vegetation in an area or in an area where vegetation is present, with one of the benzoylpyrazole compounds of claims 1-6 in an effective herbicide concentration. 9. Benzoic acid compounds with the formula (chemical formula) where X is replaced by F, CI, Br, CH3, or OCH3; Y is replaced by CH3, C2H5, or CH(CH3)2:; and R is replaced by 3-oxytanyloxy, 3-oxytanylbethoxy, 2-(2-oxytanyl)ethoxy, or 2-oxytanylmethoxy, each of which can be selectively replaced by methyl.
