The electrons are released from the formed layer on top of the cathode electrode, the formed insulating layer on the cathode electrode, and the base plate to separate the metal ends. The first gate electrode is formed on the insulating layer at the formed metal ends and has a gate at which the metal ends are exposed. The second gate electrode is formed on the top surface of the insulator, protruding transversely from the first gate electrode and divided into several sections by the gaps between them.

Claims

1. The cathode element of an electron gun for a cathode ray tube (CRT) consists of a base plate, a cathode electrode layer formed on the base plate with predetermined spacing, numerous electron-emission tips formed on the top surface of the cathode electrode, an insulating layer formed on the cathode electrode and base plate to separate each tip, a first gate electrode formed on the insulating layer with the formed tips and a gate with the exposed tips, and a second gate electrode formed on the top surface of the insulating layer, extending horizontally from the first gate electrode and divided into sections with gaps between them.

2. The cathode element of an electron gun for a cathode ray tube, as claimed in claim 1, shall consist of the cathode conductor connected to the aforementioned insulating layer containing the aforementioned gap and the aforementioned base plate, and connected to the aforementioned cathode electrode layer.
