Abstract

Refillable containers for packaging granular products are designed to be easily collapsed after use and are adapted for insertion into an outer carton-type packaging. The container consists of a molded enclosure made up of opposite top and bottom walls, opposite side walls, and opposite front and back walls. This seal prevents the granular product from flowing out of the enclosure before it is opened. Each side wall has three weak lines (first, second, and third) positioned on it. The first and second weak lines are located near the bottom wall, starting near the front wall, and the second near the back wall. These lines extend along each side wall to the top wall, meeting at a vertex located on the side wall midway between the top and bottom walls. The third weak line, positioned on each side wall, also starts near the vertex. And extending to a point in the vicinity of the top wall, the container of this invention will also include additional, rigid lines extending from a point in the vicinity of one vertex to a point in the vicinity of another vertex. This additional line will connect these two points in the vicinity of the vertex by extending along a portion of each side wall and at least one section of the front and back walls. Finally, the container of this invention will include tear strips extending along the front, back, and side walls. These tear strips will be such that they extend over the outer box-type packaging into which the refillable container is inserted.

Claims (9)

1. A new full container is provided for the packaging of granular products that are easily collapsible after use. Such container is adapted to be inserted into a hollow outer container. This container, consisting of an open top, a closed bottom, and two pairs of opposing panels, thus designates as the receiver for the inclusion of such a refillable container. This container shall consist of: (a) a housing for the granular product; this housing shall consist of an opposing top and bottom wall, opposing side walls, and opposing front and back walls. The container shall be sealed to prevent the flow of the granular product out of this housing before it is opened. (b) Each of these side walls shall have weak first, second, and third lines placed on it. The first and second lines shall be located adjacent to the bottom wall. The first line shall begin... (c) The container shall include additional weak lines extending from a point near one vertex of the aforementioned front wall to a point near the aforementioned rear wall. These first and second lines extend along the side walls toward the aforementioned top wall and meet at a vertex located on the side wall between the aforementioned top wall and the aforementioned bottom wall. These first and second lines shall extend along the side walls toward the aforementioned top wall and meet at a point near the aforementioned vertex. These third lines shall extend along the side walls toward the aforementioned top wall and meet at a point near the aforementioned top wall. These third lines shall extend along the side walls toward the aforementioned top wall and meet at a vertex located on the side wall between the aforementioned top wall and the aforementioned bottom wall. Refillable containers conforming to claim 1 herein shall have a barrier coating that makes the container impermeable to moisture. 5. Refillable containers that comply with claim 1 herein shall be moisture-proof. 6. Refillable containers that comply with claim 1 herein shall be hermetically sealed. 7. Refillable containers conforming to claim 1 herein shall be filled with granular product in such a manner that the product does not exceed the tear-off strip line before the container is opened. 8. Refillable containers conforming to claim 1, where the line is of weakened condition, shall be a superimposed line. 9. Refillable containers conforming to claim 1 herein shall have a tear-off strip made of flexible plastic attached to the inside of such container along the front, side and front walls (Clause 9, page 3, figure 4).
