1482336 Centrifugal separator HOECHST AG 10 Oct 1975 [22 Nov 1974] 41614/75 Heading B2P [Also in Division B5] An apparatus for use in making gypsum articles, e.g. sheets of gypsum wall board, comprises a centrifuge 8 having a feed line 7 for an aqueous calcium sulphate α-semihydrate suspension and an annular receptacle 1 for receiving concentrated suspension discharged from the centrifuge, the receptacle having means 2 for receiving water and being provided with a discharge line 3 running to a distributor 6 supplying a plurality of lines 13-16 whereby suspension of flowable consistency is conveyed from the receptacle to respective moulds 9-12 in which the articles are cast. The means 2 consists of tangential feed lines disposed around the periphery of the receptacle for injecting water into the annular space 19 defined between the inner and outer peripheral walls of the receptacle and centrifuge rotor 4 respectively. The distributor 6 comprises a flexible line 1) and a selector 18 which enables the outlet end of the line 1) to be moved horizontally across the inlet ends of the conveying lines 13-16. Blades 5 mounted on the rotor extend substantially across the annular space 19 within the receptacle and serve to promote mixing of the suspension with water.

A 3-distributing device in the form of a flexible pipe 11 with a servo drive 12 and an exhaust pipe 13 connected with casting molds.

The operation of the device is as follows.

The centrifuge 3 is fed through the inlet line 1 with a calcium sulfate hemihydrate calcium superposition hydration. During the rotation of the rotor C, the separation of the calcium sulfate hemihydrate from the mother liquor occurs. The material with residual moisture after centrifugation through the discharge ports 6 in the rotor k enters the cavity of the mixer 5, where it is transferred with an appropriate amount of water to a homogeneous solution for pouring shaped products. The tangential injection of water into the homogenizing cavity of the mixer ensures the circulation of the calcium sulfate hemihydrate within the cavity, as well as intensive mixing with water and flowing out of the outlet nozzle 10 of the tray 7 in the form of a fluid homogeneous suspension. The intensity of mixing of the calcium sulfate hydrate with water is further enhanced by the stirring blades 9 mounted on the rotor radially on the rotor. The suspension obtained by means of a flexible pipe 11, moved by Servo 12, is fed into the casting molds 14 via outlet pipes 13.

The described device for the continuous preparation of an aqueous suspension of the "calcium sulfate hemihydrate" provides a homogeneous homogeneous suspension, the ability to produce castings of the same density.
