Description
(54) DEVICE TO DETERMINE THE OXYGEN INDEX OF MATERIALS
The invention relates to devices for evaluating the physical properties of polymeric, textile and other materials. Instruments for determining the oxygen index of materials are known, comprising a housing with a sample holder and a gas inlet 1. A device for determining the oxygen index of plastics is also known. In a known instrument, the test sample is fixed in a holder, placed in a transparent quartz tube mounted on a housing, at the base of which is a gas inlet, into which a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen is supplied with a certain controlled concentration, the total flow of which creates a certain flow rate of the mixture in the tube. To evenly distribute the gas mixture over the cross section of the pipe, a gas flow distributor is used, made in the form of a tube installed inside the pipe with a gap relative to the base of the body of the perforated plate and glass balls poured on it. To prevent contamination from residues from the combustion of the sample surface of the gas flow distributor, a sample residue collection is used - a fence made of metal mesh and installed in a quartz tube between the sample and the gas flow distributor. When the device is in operation, the sample is ignited and the minimum oxygen concentration in the stream of oxygen-nitrogen mixture is determined, which maintains the sample burning for a certain time or a certain length 2. The disadvantages of the known device are inaccuracy due to the fact that the fence mesh is clogged with sample residues and solid particles, partially falling through the mesh, as well as liquid fractions of the resin type (formed, for example, during the burning of polyvinyl orid films, polyester fabrics, etc., and not solidifying at room temperature), seeping in, contaminate the surface of the gas flow distributor, lubricating the surface of the balls and sticking them together. In this connection, the uniform distribution of the gas mixture over the cross section of the pipe and, consequently, the uniform flow of the sample during the tests, as well as the change in linear
скорости потока, что существенно вли ет на точность проводимых испытаний, Остатки пробы от предыдущих опытов соприкасаютс непосредственно с газовой смесью, обогащенной кислородом, создава ее загр зненность .flow rates, which significantly affects the accuracy of the tests carried out. The residues of the sample from previous experiments are in direct contact with the gas mixture enriched with oxygen, creating its contamination.
In addition, it is inconvenient to maintain the device due to the need to clean the fence mesh (or even replace it) before each experiment. Cleaning the balloons and the gas flow distributor tank from sample residues is practically impossible due to its labor intensity.
The aim of the invention is to improve the operation accuracy and serviceability of the device.
The goal is achieved by the fact that in a device for determining the oxygen index of materials comprising a housing, at the base of which is a gas inlet, a quartz tube mounted on the upper part of the housing, a gas flow distributor mounted in the tube, a sample holder mounted in the tube above the distributor droplets installed between the distributor and the holder, the body is equipped with a lid with a hole, over which a pipe is installed, the gas flow distributor is made in the form of a glass, coax cial mounted in the housing with clearance relative kryschki and perforated annular plate rigidly connected with it, wherein the inner diameter of glass is greater than or equal to the inner diameter of the pipe.

A gas burner 13 is used to ignite the sample. The sources of gases are not shown in the drawing.
The device works as follows.
Sample 2 is installed in the quartz tube 1 on the holder 3. With the help of valves 10 and 11, the required concentration of oxygen in the mixture with nitrogen and the total flow of the mixture are determined using flow meters 12
The sample is ignited with a burner 13. The burner is removed and the stopwatch is immediately switched on, the burning time is measured before the sample goes out. By the minimum concentration of oxygen in a mixture of nitrogen, which maintains combustion in
