Description
Phenol-lignin resins have recently become widely used in the production of various types of plastics. Phenol-oligpin resin-based powders can be obtained by commonly used methods: roller, lacquer, roll-suspension. Textolite-type laminates are made by impregnating the corresponding fabric with alcoholic solutions of phenol-lignin resin. Laminates of the potato-type can be made using either a lacquer or roll-suspension method.
Фенололигнинные смолы вл ютс термопластами, вследствие чего во всех указанных случа х их применени вводитс добавка отверждаюш ,его средства (уротропин).Phenol-lignin resins are thermoplastics, as a result of which, in all these cases of their use, curing agent is introduced, its agents (hexamine).
Until now, the use of phenol-lignin resins for the manufacture of laminated plastics such as textolite, as well as for the manufacture of a press mass with a long-fiber filler (asbestos, linter, cotonin, etc.) was possible only by using solutions of phenol-lignin resins in organic solvents (almost alcohol). Meanwhile, normal phenolic resins in these cases can be successfully applied in the form of emulsions or suspensions, as well as in the form of aqueous solutions of resinous agents.
The use of emulsions, suspensions or mixtures of resin-forming agents instead of alcoholic solutions of cmol is of great practical importance, since this results in a significant reduction in the cost and improvement of sanitary-technical conditions of work. The special properties of phenol-lignin resins exclude the possibility of using the emulsion method and the method of impregnation with mixtures of resin-forming agents for the manufacture of textolites and fibers, and it is extremely difficult to design the suspension process.
The authors of the present invention have found that when using phenol-lignin resins, it is possible to carry out the processes of impregnation of fabric and fiber without the use of organic solvents (alcohol) or with the use of a very limited amount of them. The same method, naturally, can be successfully applied to impregnate paper and wood veneer. The proposed process is based on the solubility of phenol-lignin resins in caustic alkali.
It has been found that in order to obtain a homogeneous solution, it is not necessary to introduce caustic alkali in an amount equivalent to the content of free hydroxyl groups in the phenol-lignin resin. It turned out to be possible to achieve complete peptization of the resin already when it is treated with an amount equal to the weight of the resin of the 7.5% alkali solution. At the same time, the amount of alkali is equal to 33% of the theoretically necessary for the saturation of free hydroxyl groups.
The viscosity of the solution thus obtained at a normal temperature (20 °) is very high, but already with moderate heating (up to 30-40 °) the viscosity decreases to the extent that it is possible to effectively fabric and fiber impregnation under the conditions commonly used in production. With the introduction of small amounts of alcohol, peptization is achieved even with the use of a 3% sodium hydroxide solution (while maintaining the required working viscosity). Alcohol is enough to enter from 5 to 20% by weight of the resin. With the indicated amounts of alkali, the mechanical properties of the plastics do not undergo any changes and removal of the alkali after impregnation is not necessary.
In addition, the introduction of alkali gives a very valuable technical effect, due to the fact that the alkaline impregnation laminates can not be cooled.
