Dicitrophenols and their salts have outstanding killing properties for fungi, which is why they are used to preserve wood. Free dinitrophenols themselves, or mixed with other impregnating agents, cannot be used, however, in iron vessels or for impregnation by pneumatic means, as they strongly corrode iron (German Patent No. 219893, p. 1, lines 17-23) . In contact with iron, dinitrophenols are chemically altered and lose strength in their killing fungi. The impregnating fluid, especially in the heat, becomes very quickly unsuitable. The salts of dinitrophenols themselves, however, do not act on iron, but corrode this in the presence of certain impurities, such as ammonium sulphate, magnesium sulphate, sodium fluoride, sodium sulphate, etc., which are used in Compound with dinitrophenols to achieve difficult inflammability and to increase resistance to mold formation. For these reasons, wood preservation by dinitrophenols or their salts in combination with other salts could not be carried out by pneumatic impregnation, but had to be done by dipping or dipping. But at the same time, a greater part of the sapwood remains unprotected, especially rotting. In order to eliminate corrosive iron vessels when the tree was soaked with dinitrophenols, the latter, according to German patent No. 219893, were converted to the salt of aromatic bases. This method is quite expensive and, in addition, the aromatic bases must be split off in the tree itself in order for the free dinitrophenol to work. The inventor has found that the decomposition of free dinitrophenols and their salts with iron vessels can be prevented by adding to the solutions, alone or in a mixture between them, chromic acid or two-acid salts, for example, sodium, potassium, ammonium
