Description
Known and used in the foundry industry, molding-core mixtures based on silica in the casting process lead to the formation of a burn on the castings, the cleaning of which requires a lot of labor and technical resources.
A partial or complete replacement in the molding and core mixtures of their components by the main and more refractory dolomitic limestone is proposed, which ensures the complete inertness of these mixtures to the chemical interaction of the liquid metal and eliminates the formation of burns on the castings. The presence of dolomitic limestone in molding and core mixtures excludes the use of expensive materials for facing mixtures, their materials — magnesite, chromomagnesite, chromium iron, chamotte and others — and makes fundamental changes to the most difficult and labor-intensive operations to clean castings, since Lime is heated by the metal poured in the form to form calcium oxide and magnesium oxide. Molding mixtures using lime, prepared by a CO2-process, are easily destroyed by water to form m of the corresponding hydrates of oxides. As a result, mechanical shot blasting is eliminated, and perhaps hydraulic machining of castings, and the operation of cleaning castings reduces to wetting them and, if necessary, leaching of the mixtures with water. This greatly facilitates the regeneration of molding and core mixtures, which is reduced to the separation of their constituents from calcium and magnesium oxides with their subsequent use in industry. This method of breaking molding and core sands after casting molds with metal also solves the problem of the breakability of chemically hardening compositions on liquid glass. The preparation of molding and core mixtures from dolomitic limestone, as well as the manufacture of molds and cores, can be carried out by known methods using existing equipment and bonding materials.
