Description
))
The invention relates to a method for the oxidation of sulfur dioxide and can be used in the metallurgical and chemical industries, as well as other industries, in the production of sulfuric acid.
The purpose of the invention is to increase the oxidation of sulfur dioxide.
The method is carried out as follows.
Sulfur dioxide is passed through a fixed bed of catalyst grains with a hole in each grain. A passage from the top to the bottom, a part of the gas flow, washing the grain, passes through the holes between them, and the other part of the gas passes through the holes inside the grains. The cross-sectional areas of the holes in the grains and between the grains are equal, thereby achieving a uniform distribution of the gas flow, temperatures and velocities in the bed, which increases the degree of oxidation of sulfur dioxide to trioxide. The reacted gas stream exits the contact apparatus to the absorption of sulfur trioxide.

Example. A catalyst bed in the amount of 8 g of grains in the form of balls with an outer diameter of 8 mm and a hole in each ball with a diameter of 2 mm is placed in a reactor with a diameter of 100 mm. The layer height is 400 mm. Sulfur dioxide with a content of 7% S02 is passed through the reactor, the rest is air with a bulk velocity of 4000 at 485 ° C.
SOj 72-75%.The cross-sectional area of the holes in the grains and between the grains of the balls is 3.1 mm. The oxidation state is 86.75%, while according to a known method, the oxidation state SOj is 72-75%.
