Description
In the process of oxosynthesis, besides the main product, aldehydes, alcohols are also produced. In this case, the limits of the boiling points of the latter and aldehydes often coincide, which makes it impossible to separate pure aldehydes from the products of oxosynthesis by rectification.
It is known that aldehydes can be isolated from their mixtures with alcohols in the form of bisulfite compounds, which are then decomposed with soda into components, followed by distilling of the aldehyde. However, this method is multistage and is associated with the consumption of large quantities of soda and bisulfite.
To intensify the process of isolating aldehydes from their bisulfite compounds, an aqueous solution of the latter is proposed to be treated directly (i.e., without adding soda) with water vapor. During such treatment, the decomposition of the bisulfite compounds of aldehydes takes place with simultaneous distillation of the latter, which also saves soda and re-uses the solution of bisulfite.
Example. Oxosynthesis products containing aldehydes with 6–8 carbon atoms in an amount of 26%, calculating aldehydes with seven carbon atoms, are treated for 30 min at boiling point and under vigorous stirring with a saturated solution of sodium bisulfite, taken at the rate of 1.5 mol bisulfite to 1 mole of aldehyde. The liquid is then cooled and transferred to a separatory funnel. The upper organic layer containing 5% aldehydes is re-treated with sodium bisulfite, after which 2% aldehydes remain in it; thus, as a result of twofold treatment, 90% of aldehydes are extracted from the product of oxosynthesis.
The resulting solution of bisulfite compounds is steamed until the aldehydes are distilled off. In this case, it is possible to drive off up to 90% of bound aldehydes, which are then dispersed in vacuum. The remaining bisulfite solution is sent for reuse.
130890- 2 The subject invention
