Description

This invention relates to methods for monitoring the suitability of a zinc electrolyte in a hydrometallurgical zinc production process.

Known control methods do not provide the desired performance and fast results.

To eliminate this drawback, it is proposed to estimate the degree of contamination of a solution by the difference between the duration of cathodic deposition of zinc on a graphite or carbon electrode and the time of its reverse anodic dissolution with a strictly stabilized current.

In the implementation of the proposed method in the working electrolyte or its sample immerse the electrode station containing the main electrode of coal or graphite, as well as auxiliary and calomel electrodes. Using known methods and devices, a constant current is maintained, the time of deposition of zinc, the polarity of the current and the time of the reverse dissolution of the zinc deposited on the electrode are measured. The degree of contamination of the electrolyte and its suitability for further work can be judged by the difference in the time of deposition of zinc from the electrolyte and the time of its reverse dissolution. The monitoring can be carried out batchwise or continuously by repeating the precipitation cycles and re-dissolving. The duration of the deposition cycle is no more than 60-100 seconds.

Subject invention

An electrochemical method for determining the suitability of a zinc electrolyte, characterized in that, in order to reduce the monitoring time, the degree of contamination of the solution is estimated by the difference between the duration of the cathode deposition of zinc on the graphite or carbon electrode and the time of its reverse anodic dissolution with a strictly stabilized constant electric current.
