The invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the refining of aluminum and its alloys. The purpose of the invention is to increase the yield by reducing the loss of metal from the slag. The essence of the method is that to protect the surface of the aluminum melt from contact and interaction with the environment, a flux based on chlorides and alkali metal fluorides containing an additional coal foam formed during the electrolysis of alkali, in the following ratio of components, wt. .%: Coal foam. Fluoride and chloride salts. The rest of alkali metals. Coal foam formed during the electrolytic production of aluminum consists of carbonaceous particles of the anode and cryolite. Coal foam contains TC 21-42% carbon, which increases the degree of blackness of the surface of the melt flux. Increasing the blackness of the surface of the flux melt on the surface of a metal mirror in a reflective furnace increases the temperature of the flux, reduces the interfacial tension at the interface with the molten aluminum, and contributes to its separation from the melt. The crystallite contained in the coal foam, increasing the refining capacity of the flux, also reduces the interfacial tension (increases the surface tension of the flux) at the boundary with the melt, thereby contributing to its separation from the melt. Example. Aluminum flux refining is carried out in an electric mixer (electric reflective furnace) at 750 s. The flux is supplied in portions to the metal surface in the mixer bath and the pouring pocket after pouring the first ladle (5 tons) and before pouring each subsequent one. After filling the mixer bath, the metal is stirred to average the composition and mix the flux. The shpak was removed after 10-15 minutes. Per 1000 kg of aluminum, 0.7-1.0 kg of flux is consumed, the aluminum content in the slag is reduced compared to the prototype by about 1 kg / ton. The flux consumption according to the known technical solution was 3 kg / ton. Thus, the proposed flux will reduce the loss of metal from the slag and increase the yield of the metallurgical process.
