Description
Patent No. 328 describes a method for processing copper and zinc alloys, which consists in the fact that the process of such processing proceeds in four successive phases, namely: 1) oxidative roasting of brass, 2) dissolution of calcined brass in hydrochloric acid, 3) boiling copper and zinc chlorides with brass and 4) isolating the resulting precipitate of copper chloride and restoring it with brass.
The proposed method for processing copper zinc alloys is a modification of the above method in that the calcined brass chips are dissolved in sulfuric acid (20-30 ° Baume) and the resulting copper and zinc sulfate solution is boiled with brass chips suspended in pottery or lead grids. In this case, the zinc from the chips goes into solution, the corresponding amount of copper is released on the chips.

A very valid catalyst is a small amount of () free sulfuric acid. After boiling for 10 hours, the zinc residue in the chips was only 1, and the copper content was 89 ,,,; iron also goes into solution, so that the resulting copper contains only traces of iron. The rest of the copper from the solution is released in a fresh portion of the chips, and the copper is precipitated quantitatively; zinc sulphate solution after boiling for 10 h. did not give a better reaction to copper. For the first deposition, the chips are taken in an amount of 10-20 / o less than the required, and for the second, in excess, which is then immersed in a fresh solution. The method is simple, since all operations are reduced to calcining chips, dissolving and boiling the resulting solution with undigested chips; the final product, the copper remains in the grid, and the zinc sulfate solution.
Никакой иной аппаратуры, кроме имеющейс на каждом заводе, изготовл ющем медный купорос, не требуетс .after purification, it is processed into zinc white, lithopone or chlorzinc. No other equipment, except those available at each copper smelting plant, is required.
Example. Chips containing 66 were consumed of copper and 277 of zinc. 100 hours after calcination, the chips were dissolved in sulfuric acid in 30 Bомm. The undissolved residue was 15 h. The filtrate was boiled with 190 parts of the chips suspended in the gon. enchanting mesh. After 6 o'clock the residue in the grid was 181 hours; it contained 89, copper, 1, 8 / o zinc and only traces of iron. The rest of the copper from the solution was precipitated with a fresh portion.
ZnSO,.shavings at 200 o'clock to complete discoloration, which lasted another 4 hours; after that, the reaction to copper was negative. The resulting zinc sulphate solution contained 216 parts of ZnSO ,.
The subject of the patent.
Modification of the method of processing copper and zinc alloys (brass), mentioned in the subject of patent X 328, characterized in that the hydrochloric acid is replaced by sulfuric to avoid the formation of copper chloride as an intermediate product and to obtain copper by heating brass with an acidified solution of copper and zinc sulfates.
