Abstract

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The invention relates to seating furniture having a recliner having an upholstered seating area defined by two backrests and back cushions resting on a back support wall, the recliner being formed by displacing one of the backrests parallel to the back support wall and inserting into the space thus formed additional cushion.

With known furniture of this kind, the sliding backrest is connected to the shelf surface of the additional cushion and this shelf can be inserted into or removed from the solid body of the upholstered seating surface. The disadvantage of this arrangement is a certain instability of the lounger and also the fact that the shape variants of this furniture are relatively narrowly defined.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide such furniture of the above-mentioned type, which has a higher stability than known furniture, while at the same time ensuring a much greater variability in its shape.

This is achieved in a surprisingly simple manner in that the sliding backrest is connected to the body of the upholstered seating surface and is slidable therewith, with a shelf which can be inserted into the furniture body fixed to the second backrest.

According to a further feature of the invention, the rigid connection of the backrest to the backrest wall, which in practice does not cause interference, is achieved by one of the backrests being connected to the backrest wall by means of a floorboard.

It seems expedient for this floorboard to have an approximately triangular shape.

In order to achieve safe guidance of the upholstered seat surface coupled to the sliding backrest, it is advantageous if a guide rail for the upholstered seat surface is provided on the floorboard.

The engagement of the inserted body without additional metal parts can be ensured by providing a recess in the floorboard into which the body support pulley engages in its retracted position. Such a recess can easily be milled into the floorboard during manufacture.

As an additional locking, a locking pin on the backrest connected to the support surface which fits into the corresponding recess in the sliding body can be used.

A particularly easy way of mounting or dismounting is achieved by suspending the shelf by means of overlapping uprights in a backrest connected to the rear support wall. When assembling furniture, the shelf is basically only to be hung with overlapping rails.

The shelf 11 is pulled out of the body 12 and an additional cushion 19 can then be placed on this shelf 15. Access to said cushion 19 can be ensured, for example, by making the front wall of the body 12 hinged.

Numerous variants are possible within the scope of the invention. In particular, it is possible to vary the shape of the furniture differently, which is one of the advantages of the invention. The relative movement of the fixed and movable parts 1, 2 also depends on their relative movement, so that, depending on the circumstances, part 2 can be designed as fixed and part 1 can be displaced.
