Abstract

The presented invention describes the strengthening of a sandwich load bearing slab or a building panel by substitution of the visible understructure with a frame installed into the panel. A typical weakening of the sandwich load bearing slab is a cut-out in the slab for installation of windows and doors, for the needs of ventilation or for breakthroughs in general. By the presented strengthening system, the bearing capacity of a part of the sandwich load bearing structure, weakened by the cut-out, isincreased for several times. The sandwich load bearing slab is generally composed of two thin top load bearing layers and a shear filler core. To increase the bearing capacity of the weakened sandwich load bearing slab, there are two reinforcements glued by an adhesive from both sides of the slab onto top load bearing layers, which are interconnected in a shearing and load bearing manner by insulating spacers. Part of the load, which would otherwise be carried by the cut out part of the sandwich loadbearing slab, is transferred to the glued reinforcements. Each of the reinforcements is forming an axially and flexurally resistant frame which matches the breakthrough by its shape. Each of the reinforcements is glued along the edges of the breakthrough onto the respective top load bearing layer of the sandwich load bearing slab, by which a continuous transfer of loads from the thin top load bearing layer to the reinforcement is assured.
