Abstract

Surfaces of the plastic are abraded by directing a jet of an abrasive material in a gas at them. Dried, oil free gas is employed, The stream of gas and abrasive is applied by a low pressure jet, preferably from a pressure vessel, at not more than2.5bar. Application of the abrasive stream by a vortex jet nozzle avoids excess treatment of local areas. Treatment continues until a completely matt surface is achieved. Residual abrasive is removed from the surface by blowing away with dry, oil-free compressed air. Quality control of the surface is effected by measuring surface resistance and/or through optical control using a comparison probe. Treatment occurs in a climate controlled, draught-free atmosphere. Prior to transportation the treated surface is vacuum packaged. The jetting medium is not guided in a circle. Highest surface quality is achieved when the abrasive stream is not guided in a circular movement. An Independent claim is included for a semi-finished product, preferably of carbon fiber reinforced plastic whose surfaces are prepared by the claimed method.
