Process for labeling a block of cheese (3) intended for retail sale in several portions comprises attaching a label (4) so that each portion of the cheese is clearly identified. The label is placed on the cheese before pressing and is incorporated in the rind during waxing. Independent claims are also included for: (1) Label made of a moisture-absorbent material; and (2) Cheese block intended for retail sale in several portions. Preferred Features: One side of the cheese is labeled. The label is made of tea bag paper.
