Description

Title: Mounting assembly for a door actuator for mounting on a mounting plate without the use of connecting means
Description
The present invention relates to a mounting arrangement for a door operator as well as to a mounting method for “mounting a door operator, including a mounting plate, which mounting plate is configured to be mounted to a reception member, such as a door leaf, a door transom, a wall, a ceiling or the like, wherein the door operator is attached on the mounting plate.
STATE-OF-THE-ART
Mounting plates are known for mounting door operators, which plates are mounted to the reception member by means of screws, in that for example several screws are used, most of the time wood screws or anchor screws.
Once the mounting plate is mounted to the reception member, the door operator is placed onto the mounting plate from an orthogonal direction and attached to the mounting plate again by screws, and, in the same orthogonal direction, the screws pass through the door operator and are screwed to the mounting plate. It is disadvantageous in this context, that, after mounting the door operator, the screw connection remains still visible on : the mounting plate. As a consequence, very often cover caps need to be utilized, which conceal the reception holes for accommodating the screws in the door operator or in the mounting plate such that further individual parts are required for finishing off the installation of the door operator.
It is furthermore disadvantageous, if, for mounting the door operator on the mounting plate, a plurality of screws needs to be used. In this case, it is usual to utilize at least four or six screws in order to connect the door operator to the mounting plate. It is desirable, however, to reduce the number of fastening elements to be used. Furthermore, it should be avoided to have to provide several different threaded bores in the mounting plate, in order to allocate respective threaded bores to the screws to be used.
Another disadvantage consists in that, if the door operator is already mounted on the mounting plate, the mounting plate still remains visible. Very often the mounting plate has geometrical dimensions which correspond to the external dimensions of the door operator, and, as a consequence the mounting plate is still visible once the door operator is installed.
Therefore, it is the object of the present invention to provide a mounting arrangement for a door operator according to the generic part of claim 1 and a mounting method according to the generic part of claim 16 in conjunction with the respective characterizing features.
Advantageous further developments of the invention are indicated in the dependent claims.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
The invention includes the technical teaching that the mounting plate has retaining portions, which, for disposing the door operator at the mounting plate in a clamping manner, are positively latchable in corresponding counter- retaining portions in the door operator by placing and rotating the door operator on the mounting plate.
According to the invention, disposing the door operator on the mounting plate in a clamping manner is made possible by means of retaining portions and counter-retaining portions, which are configured in such a way that mounting the door operator on the mounting plate can be accomplished in two steps. At first the door operator is placed onto the mounting plate and the retaining portions at the mounting plate are located next to the corresponding counter-retaining portions in the door operator. By subsequently rotating the door operator on the mounting plate, the retaining portions of the mounting plate latch in the counter-retaining portions in the door operator. This circumstance will offer the advantage that, for mounting the door operator on the mounting plate, no further mounting means are required. In particular no screws, clamps, latching elements or other individual parts are required in order to finally install the door operator on the mounting plate.
It is furthermore advantageous, if, with a door operator being installed on the mounting plate, no fastening means are visible from the outside, and the door operator may either terminate flush with the mounting plate or may surround the latter laterally such that, in the installed condition, the door operator appears to be free from fastening means and presents a uniform and homogenous housing without showing a mounting plate. In particular unauthorized manipulating the door operator in the installed condition is made more difficult, because the door operator cannot be uninstalled from the mounting plate in an unauthorized manner by means of simple standard tools, for example screw drivers or hexagon keys.
Advantageously, the door operator can be placed orthogonally onto the mounting plate from the direction normal to the surface and then rotated about the surface normal of the mounting plate. In particular the axis of rotation of the door operator on the mounting plate is located almost orthogonally centrally on the mounting plate, and the door operator may be placed with its underside onto the mounting plate, wherein the door operator may already laterally surround the mounting plate.
The underside of the door closer may include a centring guide, which is inserted into a hole of the mounting plate while the door operator is placed upon the mounting plate.
Subsequently the door operator is rotated on the mounting plate about the centring guide, which simultaneously represents the axis of rotation of the door operator on the : 10 mounting plate, in an angular range of for example maximum 30°, preferably maximum 20°, and in particular preferred maximum 15°.
Advantageously, the door operator is configured with a housing in which the counter-retaining portion is fitted, wherein the counter-retaining portion is configured as a recess and/or as an undercut formed by a projection. Once the door operator is installed on the mounting plate, neither the retaining portion nor the counter-retaining portion is visible from the outside of the door operator. In this case, the housing of the door operator forms the carrying frame of the door operator and, on the underside, by means of which the door operator is placed onto the mounting plate, may have a reception space into which the mounting plate may be placed, and the reception space is bordered by the counter-retaining portions in which the retaining portions of the mounting plate will latch. It is advantageous, if the
: counter-retaining portion is fitted on the inside of the housing of the door operator, such that the mounting plate is enclosed by the housing, once the door operator is disposed at the mounting plate.
According to another advantageous embodiment, the retaining portion may have the shape of a fastening tongue at the mounting plate which, in particular by means of a slot fitted into the fastening tongue, is configured to spring back with regard to the counter-retaining portion in the housing.
The mounting plate may have an elongate extension which corresponds to the elongate extension of the door operator.
In this case, the retaining portions may be disposed opposite the respective long end of the mounting plate and in particular be conformed to the latter by means of stamping/bending procedures. The slotted execution of the fastening tongue for forming the retaining portion achieves an elasticity and the rebounding part of the retaining portions may be easily deformed when rotating the door operator on the mounting plate such that the retaining plate in the housing of the door operator is accommodated under a preload, in order to provide a play-free arrangement of the door operator on the mounting plate. Furthermore, the latched position of the door operator on the mounting plate is better secured by the rebounding behaviour of the fastening tongue, and a rotation of the door operator against the direction of rotation for latching the door operator on the mounting plate is at least made more difficult.
Advantageously, the mounting plate may have preferably wing-shaped fastening link-plates which are configured laterally with regard to the longitudinal extension, and are configured to engage in a clamping manner in link-plate receptions provided laterally in the door operator. On account of the clamping engagement of the wing-shaped fastening link-plates in the link-plate receptions, the retaining of the door operator at the mounting plate is further assisted by the retaining portions in the counter- retaining portions. The retaining portions and the counter- retaining portions may be affixed to the end sides of the mounting plate and inside the housing, and the wing- shaped fastening link-plates in the link-plate receptions are located for example almost in the centre, i.e. at half the length of the mounting plate and the associated positions in the housing. As a consequence, in case of an actuating force of the door operator, the forces are better introduced into the mounting plate, and an unwanted mobility of the door operator on the mounting plate is efficiently prevented when operating the door operator. The fastening link-plates may be configured to be spring-resilient and it may be in particular provided that the fastening link-plates have a spring-resilient link-plate portion, wherein furthermore the link-plate receptions may be configured with an inclination in order to create an elastic bracing of the fastening link- plates in the link-plate receptions when the door operator reaches the final mounting position at the mounting plate.
On account of the elastic behaviour of the link-plate portions, the door operator is pulled against the reception member to which the mounting plate is affixed. A secure non-positive positioning of the door operator on the reception member is thereby ensured, and the mounting plate serves as a bracing element between the housing of the door operator and the reception member, for example the door leaf, the door transom or a wall.
According to another advantageous embodiment, the mounting plate may have at least one latching means, and the door operator, in particular the housing of the door operator, may have a counter-latching means. The latching means is able to latch with the counter-latching means only after the door operator has reached the final mounting position on the mounting plate. The latching means may be configured as a latching tongue, wherein the counter- latching means is preferably configured as a latching edge in the housing. If the door operator is placed upon the mounting plate, the latching means of the mounting plate will overlap the counter-latching means of the door operator. If the door operator is rotated above the mounting plate, while the retaining portions of the mounting plate simultaneously latch in counter-retaining portions of the door operator and in particular when the fastening link- plates of the mounting plate latch in the link-plate receptions of the door operator, the latching means is released from the counter-latching means and, on account of elastic deformation, the latching means is able to rebound. If the door operator is to be rotated again in the opposite direction, in order to remove the latter from the mounting plate, this rotation is prevented in that the latching tongue abuts against the latching edge in the housing of the door operator.
As a consequence, for releasing the door operator on the mounting plate, a bending action needs to be effected on the latching means in order to guide the latter back in a spring-resilient manner, such that, when rotating the door operator on the mounting plate in the release direction, the latching means will again overlap with the counter-latching means. For this purpose, it may be provided that an opening is provided in the housing of the door operator, : through which opening a bending action is made possible onto the latching means, in particular by means of a tool. If the door operator is then to be released again from the mounting plate, for example a drift pin is introduced through the opening and the latching tongue is resiliently pushed back such that the latching tongue does no longer abut against the latching edge in the housing of the door operator. As a consequence, the door operator can be rotated again above the mounting plate in order to be able to lift the door operator subsequently off of the mounting plate in an orthogonal direction. An advantageous possibility is thereby provided to initiate the uninstalling process of the door operator from the mounting plate by simply introducing an object into the opening of the door operator and by effecting a bending action onto the latching tongue, in order to release the latter from its abutment position against the latching edge in the housing of the door operator.
It is even furthermore advantageous, if the counter- retaining portions may have indentations fitted in the housing of the door operator, which indentations protrude into the area of movement of the retaining portions in such a way that, upon rotation of the door operator on the mounting plate about an angle segment, the retaining portions elastically engage in the indentations. This elastic engagement is in particular made possible by the slots in the fastening tongues, and during the uninstalling process of the door operator from the mounting plate, a force needs to be overcome, in order to be able to rotate the door operator on the mounting plate in the release direction. In case the retaining portion has already been moved past the indentation in the housing, the retaining portion elastically springs back and the door operator can be easily removed from the mounting plate.
Another advantage consists in that the mounting plate is to be fastened by means of screw elements which project through openings in the mounting plate wherein the openings are configured as a universal hole pattern. The universal configuration of the openings in the mounting plate offers the possibility of disposing the mounting plate, and thus the door operator, closer to or further away from the door hinges, whereby, when actuating the door, the relevant torque is affected.
The problem of the present invention is furthermore solved by a mounting method for mounting a door operator on a mounting plate, which mounting plate is configured to be mounted to a reception member, such as a door leaf, a door transom, a wall, a ceiling or the like. According to the invention, it is therefore provided that the mounting method comprises at least the steps of placing the door operator on the mounting plate and of rotating the door operator onto the mounting plate until the retaining portions provided in the mounting plate positively latch with corresponding counter-retaining portions in the door operator. The advantages and further features of the mounting arrangement of the present invention may be likewise utilized for the mounting method.

Further measures enhancing the invention will be illustrated in more detail in conjunction with preferred embodiments of the present invention. The following

Figure 4: a perspective view of the housing of the door operator with the features of the present invention,
Figure 5: another embodiment of the mounting arrangement with a door operator and a mounting plate in a non-latched position, wherein the mounting plate has laterally conformed latching portions which are latchable in latching receptions in the housing of the door operator, and
Figure 6: the embodiment of the mounting arrangement according to Figure 5, wherein the door operator is rotated on and latched in the mounting plate, and the latching portions of the mounting plate are latched in the latching receptions in the housing of the door operator.
The Figures 1 and 2 show a first embodiment of an inventive mounting arrangement for a door operator 10 to be mounted at a reception member, such as a door leaf, a door transom, a wall, a ceiling or the like by means of a mounting plate 11. The mounting plate 11 may be screwed to the surface of the reception member by means of screw elements 23, and six screw elements 23 are shown, two of said screw elements 23 are disposed in the centre and two screw elements 23 at the respective end of the elongate extension of the mounting plate 11. Openings in the mounting plate 11 serve to accommodate the screw elements 23, wherein not all six illustrated screw elements 23 need to be utilized. The openings, through which the screw elements 23 pass, are disposed in the mounting plate 11 in such a way that they form a universal hole pattern, which results in affecting the distance of an installed door operator to the door hinge. The mounting plate 11 thus offers the possibility to be able to install the mounting plate 11 at different distances to the door hinge, which ultimately affects the generated torques. The hole pattern of the mounting plate 11 may be configured in a corresponding variable manner.
The door operator 10 has a housing 14, which forms the body of the door operator 10. On the underside of the housing 14, by means of which the housing 14 can be placed onto the mounting plate 11, the housing 14 has a reception area 25. The reception area 25 is configured in such a way that the mounting plate 11 can be accommodated therein, and once the door operator 10 is placed upon the mounting plate 11, the door operator 10 encloses the mounting plate 11 completely. Furthermore, the reception area 25 in the housing 14 of the door operator 10 is dimensioned in such a way that the door operator 10 can be rotated on the pre-mounted mounting plate 11.
According to the invention, the door operator 10 with the housing 14 can therefore be placed onto the mounting plate 11, wherein the placing is realized from an orthogonal direction towards the mounting plate 11. Subsequently, the door operator 10 with the housing 14 is rotated, whereby the housing 14 of the door operator 10 can be latched securely on the mounting plate 11. Subsequently, the arm assembly can be connected to the closer shaft 22 of the door operator 10, and the door operator 10 can be put into operation. : Figure 1 shows the door operator 10 in an arrangement placed onto the mounting plate 11, without the housing 14 being rotated for the purpose of latching it in the mounting plate 11. The mounting plate 11 has retaining portions 12 which are affixed to the ends of the elongate extension of the mounting plate 11 and are configured in the shape of fastening tongues 12. The housing has counter-retaining portions 13 which, in the shape of recesses, are affixed on the inside in the reception area 25 of the housing 14. If the door operator 10 with the housing 14 has been simply placed onto the mounting plate 11, the retaining portions 12 are not latched in the counter-retaining portions 13.
Once a rotation of the housing 14 has been accomplished on the mounting plate 11, latching of the retaining portions 12 in the counter-retaining portions can be realized, in that the housing 14 is rotated about the normal to the surface of the mounting plate 11. In this case, the penetration point 24 of the surface normal of the mounting plate 11 forms the axis of rotation with a centring guide of the housing 14 in which the housing 14 needs to be rotated in order to latch the retaining portions 12 in the counter-retaining portions 13; for this purpose refer to Figure 2.
Figure 2 shows the mounting arrangement of the door operator 10 in the completed installed condition. The retaining portions 12 are latched in the counter-retaining portions 13, whereby the housing 14 of the door operator is installed securely on the reception member by means of the mounting plate 11. 10
In order to release the housing 14 again from the mounting plate 11, the retaining portions 12 need to be released again from the counter-retaining portions 13. Releasing the retaining portions 12 from the counter-retaining portions 13 is realized by rotating the housing 14 on the mounting plate 11 opposite to the direction of rotation, in which the retaining portions 12 latch in the counter-retaining portions 13. In order to prevent an unwanted and self-acting release of the housing 14 from the mounting plate 11, the mounting plate 11 has a latching means 18. The latching means 18 is configured in the shape of a latching tongue 18 and has a pre-bent such that the latching tongue 18 already protrudes from the plane of extension of the mounting plate 11. Furthermore, a counter-latching means 19, configured as a latching edge 19, is fitted into the housing 14.
Figure 1 shows that, in a situation of the housing 14 on the mounting plate 11, prior to rotation for latching the retaining portions 12 in the counter-retaining portions 13, the latching tongue 18 rests on the latching edge 19. When the latching tongue 18 is resting on the latching edge 19, the latching tongue 18 is subject to an elastic rebounding force, and if the housing 14 is rotated on the mounting plate 11 into the final mounting position, for this purpose refer to
Figure 2, the latching tongue 18 slides away from the latching edge 19 and rebounds elastically. In the rebounded position, the latching tongue 18 laterally comes to bear against the latching edge 19 in the housing 14, and prevents the housing 14 from rotating back on the mounting plate 11 about the surface normal. It can be thus ensured that the door operator 10 is prevented from an unwanted release from the mounting plate 11.
An opening 20, through which a tool for example a drift pin or a screwdriver can be introduced, is shown in the housing 14. In the final mounting position of the housing 14 on the mounting plate 11, it is by means of this tool, that the latching tongue 18 can be guided elastically back, in order to release the latching tongue 18 from the latching edge 19 in the housing 14. Once the latching tongue 18 elastically rebounds, the housing 14 can be rotated back on the mounting plate 11 in order to release the housing 14 again from the mounting plate 11. In this case, the latching tongue 18 slides again onto the upper side onto the latching edge 19 and releasing the housing 14 is made possible.
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of the mounting plate 11 with six screw elements 23 for mounting the mounting plate 11 to a reception member. The mounting plate 11 has an elongate extension which corresponds to the elongate extension of the door operator 10. In the terminal areas of the elongate extension, the mounting plate 11 has retaining portions 12, which are configured in the shape of fastening tongues 12 and are slightly bent out of the plane of extension of the mounting plate 11. If the mounting plate 11 is installed on the reception member, the retaining portions 12 are located at a distance to the surface of the reception member. The retaining portions 12 are configured to be slotted by a slot 15 and the slot 15 extends vertically to the longitudinal direction of the mounting plate 11. A frontal partial area of the retaining portions 12 can thus engage in longitudinal direction of the mounting plate 11 and, if the housing 14 of the door operator 10 is placed onto the mounting plate 11 and is rotated, a rebounding of the retaining portions 12 can happen about the angle of rotation, such that a slight elastic deformation of the retaining portions 12 needs to happen until the housing 14 of the door operator 10 reaches the final mounting position on the mounting plate 11, if the housing 14 is rotated about the surface normal of the mounting plate 11 and which surface normal penetrates the mounting plate 11 in the penetration point 24. The latching tongue 18 is shown furthermore and the mounting plate 11 can be manufactured in a simple manner in stamping/bending procedures. The number of openings in the mounting plate 11 for the screw elements 23 may be variably configured in order to affect the distance to the door hinge and thus to affect the torques.
Figure 4 shows the housing 14 of the door operator 10 in a perspective view from an underside such that the reception area 25 is visible into which the mounting plate 11 can be inserted, when the housing 14 is installed on the mounting plate 11. The view of the underside of the housing 14 furthermore shows the counter-latching means 19 in the shape of the latching edge 19, against which the latching “means 18, in the shape of the latching tongue 18 according to Figure 3, can reach abutment. Moreover, the counter- retaining portions 13 in the shape of recesses are shown located inside in the walling of the housing 14, in which recesses the retaining portions 12 can latch. Prior to entering the recesses 13, the housing 14 has indentations 21 past which the retaining portions 12 of the mounting plate 11 need to be guided. When the retaining portions 12 pass the indentations 21, the retaining portions 12 may slightly resiliently engage, which is made possible by the slot 15 in the retaining portions 12. A latching of the retaining portions 12 in the counter-retaining portions 13 is thereby achieved and the housing 14 is prevented from an unwanted and self-acting release in the opposite direction of rotation on the mounting plate 11. The opening 20 is furthermore shown, through which a tool can act upon the latching tongue 18, if the mounting plate 11 is accommodated in the reception area 25.
Figures 5 and 6 show another embodiment of a mounting arrangement of a door operator 10 according to the present invention. Again, the mounting plate 11 can be screwed onto a reception member by means of screw elements 23 and, from an orthogonal direction, the housing 14 of the door operator 10 may be initially placed upon the mounting plate 11 and rotated about a surface normal of the mounting plate 11, which normal represents the axis of rotation of the housing and is indicated by the penetration point 24 on the mounting plate 11. The mounting plate 11 in turn has retaining portions 12, which are latchable in counter-retaining portions 13 in the housing 14 of the door operator 10.
The mounting plate 11 has wing-shaped fastening link- plates 16 which are configured laterally with regard to its elongate extension, and are configured to engage in a clamping manner in link-plate receptions 17 provided laterally in the door operator 10. The fastening link-plates 16 are configured to be spring-resilient in that they have a spring-resilient link-plate portion 16a. The link-plate receptions 17 have an inclination and, when the door operator 10 reaches the final mounting position on the mounting plate 11, elastic bracing of the fastening link- plates 16 occurs in the link-plate receptions 17.
On account of the intended central disposition of the fastening link-plates 16, central with regard to the elongate extension of the mounting plate 11, the load bearing capacity of the door operator 10 is further increased on the mounting plate 11. Upon introducing a force into the housing 14 of the door operator 10 via the closer shaft, the actuating force of the door operator 10 needs to be absorbed by the mounting plate 11, and, at the terminal sides of the mounting plate 11, the retaining portions 12 are further supported by the additional fastening link-plates 16 which latch in the link-plate receptions 17 in the housing 14. In this case, the fastening link-plates 16 can be braced in the link-plate receptions 17 by the same rotation which is required to latch the retaining portions 12 in the counter- retaining portions 13. As a result, the mounting plate 11 serves as the bracing element in the flow of forces between the housing 14 of the door operator 10 and the reception member, and the housing 14 may sit on the reception member and may surround the mounting plate 11 in this case completely.
The invention in its configuration is not limited to the above presented preferred embodiments. On the contrary, a number of variants is conceivable, which make use of the presented solution, even with basically different types of embodiments. All features and/or advantages including the constructional details, spatial dispositions resulting from the claims, the description or the drawings, may be essential to the invention, both by themselves and in the most various combinations. It is in particular advantageous, if the housing 14 of the door operator 10 is configured to be equal-sided such that the housing 14 can be installed in two mounting positions offset by 180° to each other. In this case, depending on the installation situation, the closer shaft 22 may be guided to exit the housing 14 of the door operator 10 either to the top or to the bottom. As a consequence, the housing 14 may be mounted to the mounting plate 11 in both directions offset by 180° to each other.
