Abstract

A lens (7) provided to project an image of information on the 2D sensing surface of sensor (8) is moved between two positions, so that the device is operated in two different modes to form an image of a scanned surface in one mode and to reproduce an image of object located at distance, in another mode. The image information is stored in character and image formats, respectively in the two modes. - A signal processor identifies the characters in a composite image for storing the same in a character coded format. The stored information is communicated to an external unit by a transceiver.
