Abstract

Coating medium comprises 5-30 wt.% cellulose nitrate, 50-90 wt.% organic solvent degradable in a biofilter and 0.5-40 wt.% alkyd resin. Also claimed is the circulatory conveying of process components for the application of coating media comprising using a biodegradable, physically drying varnish, collecting any overspray in water, whereby the solid components of the varnish are separated on the water surface and the solvent components either go into the process water or the outgoing air, separating the solids from the water surface, drying and re-using them, passing the outgoing gas containing solvent through a biofilter made of biomass to decompose the solvent and returning the warm air to the process.
