Abstract

Nebulised water is added to the nozzle channel carrying the oxygen-enriched gas to the converter. A process for recovering non-ferrous metals (especially copper and nickel) from a smelt in a converter device, comprises supplying oxygen-enriched gas to the smelt via a channel inside a nozzle opening out into the converter. A medium such as an inert gas is passed around the outside of the channel in order to cool the nozzle. Nebulised water is supplied with the oxygen-enriched gas in order to cool the smelt inside the converter. An Independent claim is also included for the nozzle device used, containing an outer tube (1) for the cooling medium, a central tube (2) forming the channel for the oxygen-enriched gas and water, and a nebuliser (3) for delivering a fine water spray into the central tube.
