Abstract

The automobile radar system has at least one transmission and reception element (12) for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves. There is at least one dielectric element (11) inserted in the beam path, for protecting the transmission and reception element from the weather. The dielectric element has a series of conductor paths (16) with a maximum width of one tenth of the electromagnetic wavelength, and a relative spacing of a quarter of this wavelength. The conductor paths extend perpendicular to the polarisation direction of the electromagnetic waves. The dielectric part may be a dielectric lens for focussing or scattering the electromagnetic waves.
