Abstract
Shafts (10, 11) filled with gas and liquid respectively are arranged side by side and connected to each other at the top and bottom. Weights (17) are moved to follow an endless path (15) going up through the liquid-filled shaft and down through the gas-filled shaft. An endless belt or chain (12) or a drive screw acting as a transport device for the weights, extends between the top and bottom of the two shafts. Coupling elements (18) join the weights together. Coupling devices in the transport device engage with the coupling elements and temporarily connect the weights to the transport device as they move up through the liquid and down through the gas, to transfer upthrust and gravitational forces to the transport device. An inlet (51) and outlet (52) are provided in the top and bottom of the liquid-filled shaft. A sluice system (25) in the bottom of the generator is used to allow the weights to enter the liquid-filled shaft from the gas-filled shaft. The weights have a lower density than the liquid and a greater density than the gas. An energy generating process using the above arrangement is also claimed.
