Abstract

In a procedure for controlling the engine of a car, the degree of operation of an operating element by the driver is measured and from this degree, a set point for the torque to be generated by the engine is formed. By adjustment of at least one of the parameters influencing the engine torque, the torque approaches the set point. To evaluate the set point from the degree of operation, the deduced set point torque is referred to given maximum and minimum values. The maximum torque is the maximum permitted or possible torque. The maximum torque and the maximum filling attainable are fixed independently of the engine speed and are corrected according to the outside pressure and/or temperature.
