Abstract

In a procedure for controlling an IC engine, the admission of air is determined by a preset or specified air/fuel ratio. From the driver's request, a desired magnitude of a parameter representing the power capacity of the engine is formed which is corrected by the preset air/fuel ratio, and then the preset air/fuel ratio is adjusted. The fuel injection quantity is corrected on the basis of the preset air/fuel ratio. The limiting value for this ratio is dependent on the parameter preset by the driver or on additional functions like drive slip control, gearbox control, idle speed control and car speed control. The parameter is one representing the power or torque.
