Abstract

The mfr. of screen cylinders (1) with mesh cloth mantles (5, 6) comprises spirally winding at least one strip of cloth around the cylinder whilst stretching the strip in the length direction, the strip width being less than the length of the cylinder and the wind angle being chosen so that the strips overlap, and then securing the opposite ends of the strip into position. Also claimed are: (i) screen cylinders mfd. by this method; and (ii) a device for making these cylinders, comprising a feed roll (8) for the strip which rotates about an axis parallel to the cylinder and a device for tensioning the strip as it is unwound in order to stretch it and for moving the roll parallel to the length of the cylinder. The cloth pref. comprises a thermoplastic material.
