Abstract

A system for removing heat and contaminants from hot gases containing impurities, especially exhaust gases from a burner, comprises at least one channel (8, 21), component (9) for forcing the hot gases to flow through the channels, nozzle (13) for spraying liquid into the channels, and contact surfaces extending over the channel cross-sections to create contact between the hot gases and liquid. The contact transfers heat and contaminants via fine wires spaced apart from each other and mounted in a holder. Contact surfaces extend all the way around the wires. The component forces the liquid to flow in the opposite direction of the gas. The channels are formed by one or more columns (8) with bases (4) for collecting the liquid which is passed over the wires. Heat exchangers (15) in the base regions absorb heat from the liquid and transfer it to e.g. an accumulator tank.
