Abstract

Passive type magnetic zonal tube is used for detonating a charge on a projectile, e.g. missile or grenade, when it gets near a ferromagnetic object. The zone has three sensors for determining the field strength of the earth`s magnetic field in three different directions and a microprocessor for analysing the sensor signals to see whether projectile is close enough to the object to be detonated. The microprocessor calculates a variable which changes with total field strength intensity (B), according to equation (I) B = (Bx + By + Bz) / 2 (I) (where Bx - Bz = field strengths in 3 orthogonal directions). At least one of the sensors is a flux gate sensor and the microprocessor activates detonation when the variable changes by a selected figure.
