Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to directly detect a rotational torque transmitted to an input shaft so as to improve control accuracy by forming a circular torque sensing face on the outer circumference of an input shaft and arranging a torque sensor having a sensing coil on stationary portion side cylindrical ember opposite to the torque sensing face. CONSTITUTION:A torque sensing face 20A is formed on the outer circumference of the input shaft 6 of an automatic transmission by having direct shape mag netic anisotropy generated on this outer circumference. The magnetic permeabil ity change of the torque sensing face by tensile force or compressive force based on a torque acting on the torque sensing face 20A is detected by the flat sensing coils 34A, 34B of a torque sensor 20B which is arranged at the cylindrical portion 4a of a cover fixed on a transmission case side opposite to the torque shaped face. Thus, the input torque transmitted to the input shaft 6, i.e., the turbine torque of a torque converter, can be accurately detected directly so that the use of this torque sensing value can remarkably improve the control accuracy of a speed change controller which restrains a speed change shock.
