Abstract

A method used in a dry laying process fibrous bodies to create sections with relatively high basis weight comprises passing an air-permeable mould (14) through a flow of air containing airborne fibres in a direction at right angles to the direction of flow for the air. The base of the mould is angled relative to the direction in which the mould is being moved and relative to the air flow direction. The velocity of the air carrying the fibres and passing through the mould is uniform. Once the air has travelled through the mould the fibrous body left inside it is transferred to a flat underlay (18) whilst retaining its surface contours in a plane parallel to that of the underlay so that one side of the body is in contact with the underlay. The equipment used in this method is also claimed, including a device (15) for generating an airborne flow of fibres, an air-permeable conveyor (13) with angled sections and devices (16) for sucking air through the conveyor. The fibre flow and suction generating devices are designed to ensure a uniform velocity for the flow of air carrying the airborne fibres.
