Abstract
A process for treating a metallic implant (MI) involves treatment with: (a) a soln. of hydrofluoric acid having pH 1.6-3.0 or having HF concn. up to 3% (pref. 0.1-2.0%, esp. ca. 0.2%); or (b) an aq. soln. contg. fluoride ions at a concn. of up to 3%, the soln. being free of Na and Na+ ions. MI's treated by the process are claimed, as are MI's having a surface equivalent to that produced using treating (b).
