Abstract

A method for induction welding material which induces eddy currents and is coated with thermoplastic, using a magnetic field generated by the AC-power source to create the eddy currents, comprises setting up a magnetic field in the welding region and then setting a second magnetic field outside the welding region. Also claimed is a device for welding an end base or lid onto a packaging container via this method comprising a primary coil (6) around the base or lid (3), a secondary coil (7) outside the container (1), and an arrangement (16) for measuring current supply to coils and setting up opposing induction eddy currents. The secondary coil generates a weaker induction current than the first coil. The material for the base or lid is eg. an aluminium film coated on both sides with polyethylene.
