Abstract
The present invention concerns a transport system for transporting objects in a branched track system. The transport takes place in vehicles suspended from a hollow square beam 1 with a slit 9 in the bottom. Inside the beam there is a beam carriage 2. The vehicle 3 and the carriage 2 are joined together by a device which passes through the slit 9 in the bottom of the beam. The carriages 2 select a path through the track system without any movable switch elements being needed in the track. To ensure that the carriages 2 do not fall through the slit in the bottom of the beam at branch points or cross-over points, carrier wheels 5 run in channels 7. A guide wheel 6, which is in contact with a guide rail 4, stabilizes the carriage 2 as it passes through the branch points or cross-over points. In this way, the non-active carrier wheel can be lifted out from its channel 7. This lifting can be done automatically by the carriage 2 being inclined by contact of the guide wheel 6 with the guide rail 4 or by the carriage 2 itself being arranged to lift the non-active wheel from its channel 7. By this method, a vehicle can be driven via only half of the beam. A vehicle which is stationary in one beam half can also be moved, for example sideways, by the whole beam half being moved. <IMAGE>
