Abstract

Steel has compsn. in wt.% as follows: (most pref. figures in parentheses) C 1.3-1.6 (1.38-1.42); Si trace-1.0 max (0.4-0.6); Mn trace-1.0 max (0.2-0.4); Cr 3-5 (3.9-4.3); Mo 4-7 (4.8-5.3); W 4-8 (6.1-6.7); V 2-4 (2.95-3.25); Co 9-12 (9.5-10.5); and Fe balance. - More specifically, a tool has high hardness and wear resistance after hardening and tempering. In partic. the tool is hardened from a temp. of 1150-1200 deg.C pref. 1170-1190 deg.C, followed by tempering at 500-600 deg.C.
