Abstract

The present invention relates to an ignition lock with locking mechanism, especially for motor vehicles with automatic transmission, for preventing the ignition from being switched off unless the gearshift bar is in the parking position. The ignition lock comprises an outer lock cylinder 1 having a socket for an ignition key and the locking mechanism comprises a sliding body 2 which, by way of a mechanical connecting element 3, can be actuated to adopt various positions depending on the position of the gearshift selector or the like, and means 4,5 which interact between the said lock cylinder 1 and the said sliding body 2 and which only allow positioning of the lock cylinder 1 in a switched-off position for the ignition if the sliding body 2 has been positioned in a certain predetermined position, which position, for vehicles with automatic transmissions, corresponds to the parking position. The design of the invention minimizes costs and increases reliability. <IMAGE>
