Abstract

Launching unit for a mortar shell 4, 5, the launching unit 6 being separately loadable behind the shell 4, 5 in the barrel 1 of a mortar. The launching unit 6 is arranged so as to give off powder gases in two stages which are time-delayed relative to one another, namely in a first stage with a relatively low gas pressure in order to prepare launching of the shell, and in a second stage with a considerably higher gas pressure in order to bring about final launching of the shell. A piston 16 is arranged so as, during the first stage, to bring about a sealing function between the launching unit 6 and the shell 4, 5. The shell can comprise both an actual shell 4 and a trajectory motor 5 which can be docked at the back and is arranged so as to be docked to the actual shell by means of said piston 16. <IMAGE>
