Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus for bending an edge flange (4) which projects out at an angle to a surface of a workpiece (3) in towards said workpiece. The apparatus includes a bending tool (5) which is mounted on a tool holder (21) which, by means of a linkage mechanism (13, 17, 18) is moveably connected to a stand (1) which is attached to a foundation surface (2) on which the workpiece (3) is supported. A drive means (30) mounted on the stand is connected to the tool holder (21) in a manner to drive the same and thereby also the tool (5). According to the invention, the linkage mechanism between the tool holder (21) and the stand (1) is comprised of two parallel links (17, 18) and a triangular link (13). One end of each of the parallel links (17, 18) is pivotally connected to the tool holder (21) and the other end of the parallel links is pivotally connected to the triangular link (13), this triangular link also being pivotally connected to the stand (1). The parallel links (17, 18) form together with the tool holder (21) and the triangular link (13) a parallelogram linkage mechanism. A guide means (22-28) is provided for guiding the movement of the parallel links (17, 18) and the triangular link (13). The drive means (30) is connected to one (18) of the parallel links (17, 18) for driving of the tool holder (21) and the tool (5) through the intermediary of this one link.
