Abstract: Method of coating an insulating polymer surface with an antistatic conducting layer of a conducting polymer, which method is designed such that the polymer surface is provided with negatively charged groups, after which a metal ion is bound to these ionic groups by adsorption from a solution, after which the surface is exposed to a heterocyclic monomer in gas phase, such that the monomer is polymerized into an electrically conducting polymer with the help of the catalytically active metal ion which has been bound to the surface.
