Abstract
Pipes or shaped pieces used in water piping, especially industrial or hot water conduits, comprise crosslinked polyolefin produced by chemical incorporation of a silane and subsequent hydrolysis. In order to avoid losing the ready processability or good welding properties of the uncrosslinked polymer during installation of the piping, the finished tubes or shaped pieces are packed or stored in the absence of moisture before hydrolysis. The crosslinking reaction, caused by the process water itself, does not take place until after installation.
