Abstract

A method for the destruction of a halogen-containing substance (7), such as halocarbons or a chlorenated organic substances, by conversion of the substance. The method is characterized mainly by reacting the halogen-containing substance (7) with molten iron so as to form an iron salt or iron salts, by introducing the substance into an iron bath together with oxygen gas (5) and/or oxygen-containing material (3), wherein the iron salt or salts is/are caused to leave the bath (2) in a dust and gas flow (10).
