Abstract

The device includes at least one power transistor 15 whose collector-emitter path is in series with the motor of an electric fan, between the two poles of a direct-voltage supply 7. A drive circuit 14 receives a variable control signal Vc in dependence on which it varies the collector-emmitter voltage of the transistor 15. A negative feedback circuit 16 is connected to the collector of the transistor for closed-loop regulation of the motor speed. A threshold circuit 18 cuts off the drive circuit 14 when the signal provided by a temperature sensor 17 indicates that the temperature of the transistor 15 exceeds a predetermined value. The signal provided by the temperature sensor 17 is also available at an output terminal 12 of the device to enable external processing. When the control signal Vc exceeds a given level, circuitry 19-21 bypasses the transistor 15 to increase the motor speed. The device may be part of a vehicle air-conditioning system. <IMAGE>
