Abstract
Variable pitch propeller blades 18 are mounted on a ring-shaped rotor 22 by means of the shank of each blade extending through a respective hole in the rotor. Each hole contains an annular shelf 58 which is fastened to the wall of the hole and surrounds each shank. Roller bearings 70, 75 sandwich the annular shelf 58 in order to connect the blade to the rotor. Pitch change movement is transmitted to a gear sector 230 via a bevel gear 235. In order to reduce pitch rigging error, sector 230 is secured to part 50 by means of a variable position key (270) (Fig 13 to 18) whereby the relative positions of parts 50 and 230 may be adjusted. An anti-clank spring (307) (Figs 20A to 20C) may be inserted in slot 308 (Fig 6) and the blade dovetail root 250 retained by a retainer 355 secured by bolts 370, 375. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 22) the blade root is secured to the part 50 by means of a pin pass through aligned apertures in the blade and part 50. <IMAGE>
