Abstract

The peat used for combination has a degree of humidity according to the von Post scale which is at least two, and before its combination it is thickened to a dry content of at least 15 per cent, and/or dried to a dry content of at least 50 per cent. The material is ground before combination, and comprises colloidal particles obtained after fractioning. The combination is made with a mixt. of sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide, using mainly sulphur dioxide as anion, and in the presence of an oxidising mediu. The temp. applicable to the combination process is between 70 and 190 deg.C., and the process is terminated by a redn. of vapour pressure.
