Abstract
A safety container for the handling, transport and storage of radioactive materials comprises a vessel 1, a central body in which a chamber 3 for a charge unit 4 of radioactive material is centrally located, and a shielding ring 2 relatively rotatable around the body between the position shown and a position at 90 DEG thereto in which an opening 13 of the ring is in alignment with an opening of vessel 1 normally closed by a cap 5 and a loading opening 11 of the chamber 3 and an opening 14 of the ring 2 is in alignment with an opening of the vessel 1 normally closed by a cap 6 and an unloading opening 12 of the chamber 3. The shielding ring 2 is normally locked in the position shown by engagment of a lug 5A of cap 5 in a groove in the periphery of the ring. In an alternative arrangement illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 the body 9 in which the chamber 3 is formed is independently rotatable within the ring 2. <IMAGE>
