Abstract

Surgical instrument which can be connected by adapter 1 to stereotactic instrumentation for implantation/ transplantation of biological material, tissue, cells, pharmacological and radioactive substances or the like in the brain. The instrument consists of an outer cannula 2 through which an inner cannula 4 is introduced to the target site in the brain. Since the inner cannula 4 contains a plunger 9 which can be locked in various positions via piston 10 and sleeve 12, a quantity of implant of defined length and volume can be suctioned up into the inner cannula 4. The plunger 9, the piston 10 and the sleeve 12 can be locked, after introduction, in the longitudinal direction by means of a securing shoulder 14 on the adapter 1, but can be released in relation to the inner cannula 4 by means of the securing pin 11 being turned from the locked position in one of the transverse grooves 8 of the longitudinal groove 7. By now simultaneously withdrawing the inner cannula 4 and outer cannula 2 over the plunger 9, the material suctioned into the inner cannula (implant/transplant material) can be deposited in the tissue. The scope of the invention lies in medical, surgical, clinical and scientific activities. <IMAGE>
