Abstract

The invention is a device for length measurements of movable logs or other objects with an outer structure with the help of a photo sensor (1). In a measurement zone, the object reflects beams which is registered in such a way that only parallel or almost parallel beams are permitted to meet a number of photo sensors, essentially placed in line with the direction in which the log (2) or other object is to be moved. The signal from the photo sensor is collected via an amplifier and analogue-digital converter (14) with short time intervals to a counting computer (5). Through subtraction of the signals from a centrally placed number of photo sensors, window (B) from a first time point with corresponding signals with a second time point following directly thereafter, so that the set difference function is formed with the photo sensor position as an independent variable.
